Triton Museum of Arts Statewide 2d Competition and Exhibition

My Oil painting ” Lonesome Natural Bridge” has been juried into the prestigious Salon at the Triton 2017 Statewide 2D Competition and Exhibition. The show begin November 11 and runs thru Feb 4, 2018. I feel very honored to be accepted into this show. Lonesome Natural Bridge  16 x 20 inch, Oil on Canvas

The Natural Bridges State Park in Santa Cruz , Ca. was originally the site of 2 natural bridges. People were allowed to climb and walk on the bridges, unaware that the first bridge would eventually collapse ! In my painting I have attempted to show an emotional response to the loss of the missing bridge.

This painting is a studio piece that I composed from an onsite series of my plein air paintings and photographs. Then in the studio I used the classical oil painting technique of painting in layers. Week by week I would paint for about 4 hrs,  then let the oils dry for a week and continue on until completion. Darks first, then mid tones, then lights and hilights.

PLEASE take some time to come to the show and see the 125 wonderful works juried in by the jurors from over 1,000 entries.

About Al Shamble

I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. I have a minor in Visual Arts from UCSD where I received my BA in Biology. I am inspired by Nature and love hiking in California's Sierra Nevada and diving beneath the surface of the Pacific Ocean. I enjoy the interplay of painting Plein Air, being an outdoor photographer, and creating paintings in the studio.
